Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s a list of questions I am often asked, so I thought I’d share the answers with you. If there is something I haven’t covered then send me a message and I will answer you as soon as possible
Will you make me cluck like a chicken and will I lose all control?
No! Is the short answer. Unfortunately stage hypnosis has give therapeutic hypnosis a bit of a bad name. Often people don’t realise that when you watch people acting strange on stage they are actually happy to do this. Stage hypnotists perform in front of audiences who have been drinking and would most likely cluck like a chicken if you asked them to anyway. The realist of hypnosis is that it’s about compliance. Basically, if people want to be hypnotised, or want to cluck like a chicken, or what to get better, or feel no pain, or relax, or stop being afraid, then they will. Nothing about hypnosis is forcing you to do something against your will. Have a look at How it Works to get a better understanding.
If anything, you are more in control with hypnosis. It is a state of deep relaxation and focus. I help to guide you through this. Anyone who has experienced hypnosis will tell you that if a fire alarm went off or I suggested something you were not happy with then you would immediately come round.
“Ah, but if you can stop me feeling any pain then that means I’ve lost control of my senses … you could do anything to me!” I hear you cry. Actually, you would feel no pain because you didn’t want to feel any pain. In other words, it’s you who chooses not to feel any pain – I just help you do that.
Quite often I like to video the sessions. This helps me to look at my own practice and find ways to improve it, but it also means that clients can be safe in the knowledge of everything that went on. You’re more than welcome to have a copy as well.
Will I tell my deep dark secrets?
Again, no. Let’s say you came to Worthing for hypnotherapy to lose weight or stop smoking. How strange would it seem if I suddenly asked you to tell me something you didn’t want me to know? Your conscious mind would jump in and say “Hang on, that’s not appropriate” and you would come to, tell me exactly what you thought of me, then storm out and tell all your friends how rubbish I was. Then I wouldn’t get any clients and you would probably take me to court for all I’ve got!
Plus, I’m not interested in your deep dark secrets. I have integrity and I do this because I care. It’s that simple I’m afraid.
Are you a be a bit of a weirdo?
I hope not! But you might think differently. I certainly don’t wear a cape or swing a pocket watch. I don’t have a pointy beard and I don’t run through the forest naked listening to whale music on my ipod either. You might ask that question because there are some odd people who do what they call “hypnotherapy”, but I’m not one of them.
Derren brown makes people commit armed robbery and shoot people under hypnosis. How do I know you want do that to me?
Because you would tell the Police that you never had any intention to shoot, or rob, anyone until you started seeing me. Then I’d end up in prison. I don’t want that to happen.
There’s no doubt that Derren Brown is excellent at what he does. But don’t forget that he spends alot of time with these people and I am sure alot of editing goes on, as well as off-camera work, with people to get them to do those things. We would only need a short amount of time together to make the changes you want through hypnosis. I think you would become suspicious if you were seeing me every week and i was telling you where to buy a gun!
Do you do other alternative therapies?
Sorry, no I don’t. But I do know some credible people who do som let me know what you are interested in and I will try and point you in the right direction.
How much does an appointment cost and how long do they last?
I have a terrible habit of over-running on time but the general rule is £45 for one hour. I charge an extra £5 for home visits to cover travelling expenses unless you are registered as disabled or are agoraphobic. If you are seeing me because you have any other issue that stops you coming to see me then i charge £40 per hour . If you can show that you claim benefits other than child benefit then I charge £35 per hour.
Why are you so cheap?
Alot of people have asked me that. Some people feel that if I offer a quality service then i should charge more. However, alot of Hypnotherapists charge alot of money because they feel this proves that they are good. unfortunately, from what previous clients have told me, this is not always true. Added to this is the fact that alot of hypnotherapists, not just in Worthing but nationwide, pay alot of money to become members of special societies or join associations and registers that they are told will “prove” they are good. However, I don’t believe this is necessary as my work speaks for itself. As such, I dont need to charge you alot of money in order to pay for my mistakes. I have been more than adequately trained and am insured. You shouldn’t have to foot the bill for that.
The main reason I am considered affordable and inexpensive is that my motive is first to help people. I am not interested in earning loads of money or ripping people off for my own gain. I think I offer a very fair price and wold feel I was cheating you by asking for more. Take a look at some of the other therapists in Worthing and Sussex and ask yourself, “Should it really cost that much to help someone”. I don’t think so. But that’s just me.
Do you do home visits?
Yes. I would say that 40% of my sessions are carried out in poeple’s homes. This may be because people feel more comfortable doing this or because they struggle to come to me. I aim to provide a hypnotherapy service in Worthing and Sussex that considers my clients needs first.
Are you insured?
Yes. Fully.
Can I be hypnotised?
I have yet to meet someone who cant be hypnotised. The only time a can see that this would happen is if a person didn’t want to be. Again, hypnosis and hypnotherapy is about you wanting to take part. I don’t know of a way that can force people to be hypnotised.
Can you teach me to hypnotise others?
I do offer effective and efficient training but only to those that are serious about learning. Please send me a message if you really want to do this.
Can I hypnotise myself?
Most definitely. Some people come to me solely because they want to learn self hypnosis. Whether that’s for reasons varying from pain control, weight loss to self esteem or eating disorders it can be easily achieved.
Be honest, can you really stop people feeling pain?
Yes. That’s a real passion of my. It’s simply mind over matter. Pain is a sensation and a signal sent to the brain. Ultimately it’s all about perception. Hypnosis is a very powerful tool to achieve this.
Do you do past life regression?
I do life regression. I’m not sure I believe in past lives so I would feel I was deceiving you if i attempted that. I do regression in this life however and it has proven to be very effective.
Do you do hypno-band?
As a hypnotherapist in Worthing and Sussex I have to be honest and say that Hypno-Band is a very effective approach to losing weight. However, Hypno-Band is a registered trademark because it is a pre-packaged approached to weight loss. That’s why it can sometimes be very expensive, because buying the product isn’t cheap. The principles to Hypno Band, however, are straight forward and easy to achieve. I use these same principles without selling you the product.
Do you do NLP and are you qualified?
As a hypnotherapist in Worthing and Sussex, I do use NLP techniques. If you want to learn more about what these are then I would recommend looking them up on google or wikipedia. The idea of being qualified in NLP techniques is a bit misleading. Anyone can run a course on NLP and give you a certificate in NLP. However, those who pioneered NLP didn’t have or need a qualification … because being qualified in NLP (or hypnosis) doesn’t really guarantee anything. I have been trained to use NLP very effectively alongside hypnotherapy. I have even helped other NLP practitioners and hypnotherapist using these techniques. I do use NLP but have refused to receive the “qualification” because I believe it upholds the lie that getting a certificate means you can effectively help people.
During sessions I often explain and teach clients to use Hypnosis and NLP for themselves. Self hypnosis and self NLP are great tools you can leave my sessions with.
If you have any other questions then please do ask them by sendingme a message. I look forward to hearing from you.
